OverviewThis painting was inspired by the intense love I have for my Daughters Sophia and Olivia and the song "Fallin" by the band Yarn (please click on the link to see the video for the song) which makes me think of them.

ProcessLike most of my paintings, this piece began with a full canvas wash of gesso. I not only covered the canvas in gesso, but I used that gesso to outline what the piece would become. I usually run over my gesso with a roller that is loaded with dried paint and creates many wonderful designs/patterns in the paint. This piece was no exception. From there I began adding layers of color and added my circular orbs which were really fun. I absolutely love to work with shapes, some drawn using a template, some drawn free hand, and in this case, I drew the circles freehand but with purposeful flaws to represent the intensity of my emotions. Once I had the outline set I began to add colors in layers. The background, which is always my favorite part of my work, sits in shades of layered gold. I worked some black and reds into the orbs to highlight the feelings inside of me. As always, I completed the piece with multiple layers of protective varnish to ensure quality.

MeaningI absolutely love music, especially music that makes me "feel." The band Yarn is one of my favorite bands on the planet. Their magical mix of folk, rock, country, bluegrass, blues, and anything else you can imagine makes this incredibly talented group of musicians stand out to my soul. The song that inspired this piece, entitled Fallin, reminds me of the love I have for my daughters Sophia and Olivia. The lyrics and music plucked at the heartstrings of my being and inspired me to create. This piece stands for the constant vulnerable love I have for my girls. That love is represented in falling orbs that will continue to fall from my heart until the day I die. This piece means so much to me and as a result I chose to auction it off to raise some money for the band as they were working on a new album. I loved the process and am grateful for it.

Yarn plays the song Fallin live!
