Overview: This piece was completed in late November of 2025. This piece was painted on a beautiful wooden panel canvas purchased at the awesome Mohawk Valley Art Shop in Schenectady, New York.
Process: This painting, like almost all of my other pieces, started out with a few fun layers of gesso. The wooden panel canvas was smooth and absolutely beautiful. I am really beginning to almost prefer painting on wood as it just takes the paint on and holds the layered texture so well. This piece took me about two weeks to complete and started with what I would call some strong emotional feelings around many different things that were happening in my life. To create this piece I used a painter's knife, a roller, a rubber wedge, a sharp tipped pen, a permanent Sharpie marker, and a large paint brush. I worked to include multiple stroke styles and shape creations. Layers, layers, and more layers of paint made this so much fun.
Meaning: This piece, while created during a period where I was feeling many different emotions about many different things, was truly inspired by the love I have for both of my daughters Sophia and Olivia. Both girls are now in their teenage years and this has added some new and different challenges to parenting. I wouldn't think it possible but I love them both more each day. I hope I am being the best father I can be to them. This parenting thing is incredibly hard and the amount of love and vulnerability involved is off the charts. In this piece I see both of my daughters staring out into uncertainty. They are staring out into a complicated world that is beautiful and dangerous at the same time. They see both good and evil and as I look at their one collective face I turn my will over to my higher power and hope they will be ok. Their journey is about them and it's one that I am just so grateful to have a role in. I love them both with all of my heart and soul. It is a privilege to be their father.
While admittedly the importance of my views/thoughts/opinions are absolutely insignificant in relation to the world, I have chosen to share my feelings through this piece of art. I hope that you can get some sense of that while viewing my work. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I appreciate you!
